The health report your employer asks for before you start work is the pre-employment health report, which shows that you are medically fit for the job. It is based on Article 15 of Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 and is issued on the EK-2 Pre-Employment and Periodic Examination Form. This article summarizes where the report is obtained, what information is needed and how long the process takes.
Where is the report obtained?
Under the law, health reports are obtained from an occupational physician. The occupational physician works in the workplace's own health and safety unit or in a joint health and safety unit providing services, that is, an OSGB. This is why employers ask for the report to be obtained from an OSGB.
The law makes one exception. For low hazard workplaces with fewer than 50 employees, the report may also be obtained from occupational health centres (ÇASMER), family physicians or other public health providers. In hazardous and very hazardous work, employees cannot start without a report, and the report is issued by an occupational physician.
What information is needed?
The EK-2 form includes the workplace name and hazard class together with the employee's identity details and job. The following information is therefore requested when applying.
- Identity document
- Name of the company you will work for
- Description of your duties, for example welder, forklift operator or warehouse worker
- The company's line of business or hazard class, if known
The job description matters. The occupational physician determines the tests based on the work and the exposures involved. The word worker alone is not enough to select the tests.
Which tests are performed?
The law gives no fixed test list, and the occupational physician decides on the tests. The most common set in the field consists of a chest X-ray, audiometry (hearing test), pulmonary function test and complete blood count. ECG, vision screening and blood or urine tests may be added depending on the job.
How long does the report take?
The time depends on the tests the job requires. When the examination and tests are completed in the same visit, the report can be issued the same day. Carrier screening and heavy metal analyses that require culture take 3 to 5 business days due to the laboratory process.

The legislation defines no separate validity period for the pre-employment report. The examination is renewed periodically according to the hazard class of the workplace. It takes place at least once a year in the very hazardous class, at least every three years in the hazardous class and at least every five years in the low hazard class. A new examination is required when moving to a different job. The Health Reports Regulation in force since 19 May 2026 provides that status reports from public providers such as family physicians or ÇASMER centres are valid for one year unless the physician sets another period.
Objecting to the report
Objections to the report are made to the referee hospitals designated by the Ministry of Health, and their decisions are final.
