Electrocardiography is the basic cardiac screening test that detects rhythm disorders, conduction problems and signs of previous heart disease. It supports fitness-for-work assessments for work at height, night shifts, heavy physical work and driving duties.
The legislation does not separately require an ECG for any specific job. Under Article 15 of Law No. 6331, the occupational physician decides which tests are performed at pre-employment and periodic examinations. The medical tests regulation lists the ECG among the tests that can be performed in a mobile health unit and at a fixed centre.
Tracings are taken with a 12-lead digital ECG device with the employee lying down. The occupational physician reviews them and a cardiologist's report is obtained when needed. Employees with urgent findings are reported to your occupational physician and to the person the same day.

Questions about this service
Is an ECG mandatory for every employee?
No. The legislation does not separately require an ECG for any specific job. The occupational physician sets the test list based on the nature of the work, the employee's age and health. It is often requested for work at height, night shifts and heavy physical work.
How long does it take and is preparation needed?
The recording takes a few minutes and needs no special preparation. Electrodes are placed on the chest, wrists and ankles, so comfortable clothing is best.
