Vision problems are among the most overlooked causes of workplace accidents and lost productivity. Regular vision screening matters for a wide group, from forklift operators and quality control staff to office teams working long hours at screens.
Under Article 9 of the Regulation on Health and Safety Measures in Work with Display Screen Equipment, the eyes of display screen workers are examined before they start screen work, at intervals set by the occupational physician according to the risk assessment, and whenever visual problems arise. Suitable corrective aids are provided where needed.
Screening covers distance and near visual acuity, colour vision and refractive error measurement with an autorefractometer. Employees who need glasses or an ophthalmologist's assessment are flagged in the report. Eye examinations for driving licences are handled separately under the regulation on driver health requirements.
